Jean-Luc took a final look at the room. The bed was perfectly made, the pillow perfectly centred against the small headboard. Before leaving, he made a final check that he had gathered all his things. A bitter smile flashed across his face before he straightened himself out and exited, luggage in hand. The door swung close with a dull thud, followed by the sharp click of the lock, as he stood along the quiet hallway.
He could not have anticipated the sudden phone-call. He had hoped he could stay and watch the store thrive, to meet new customers, and to become friends with more colleagues. A sigh escaped his lips as he stepped down onto the main floor. Through the window, he could see the taxi waiting, he was needed elsewhere. He crossed the main floor, but stopped partway. Placing his larger bag on the floor, he opened it and pulled out a small box of macarons he had prepared the night before. He sighed again, taking his luggage and leaving, not looking back until he was in the back seat of the car.
The box of macarons sat on the front desk with a note…
"Thank you for everything,
It is with my deepest regret that I must inform you of my resignation from my position here as Patissier. Please accept these as my token of gratitude.
- Jean-Luc
P.S. Cyril, there's some money in the room that should make up for the cost of making these"
Good luck with school and don't work too hard!
